Short answer: Yes, many ZLINE wall hoods are convertible. They can vent outside through a duct or run ductless (recirculating) with ZLINE CF1 charcoal filters. Ductless is a fallback for kitchens that can't vent outside, like condos, interior walls or no route to an exterior wall. It filters grease and odor but does not remove heat, moisture or combustion gases. If you can duct it, duct it.

Can a ZLINE range hood be ductless?

Many ZLINE wall hoods are sold as convertible. ZLINE says the KB-30, for example, can be vented outside or recirculated (ductless) with CF1 charcoal filters, which are not included with that model. Check that your exact model is listed as convertible.

Is a ductless range hood OK over a gas range?

It is allowed by many codes when the hood is listed for it, but HVI notes that recirculating hoods provide no actual ventilation. They filter grease and some odor, but heat, moisture and combustion byproducts stay in the room. Vent outside whenever you can, especially over gas.

What is the difference between ZLINE KB-30 and KB-CF-30?

Both are 30-inch convertible wall hoods. The KB-CF version is listed with charcoal filters for recirculating use. With the KB-30, ZLINE sells the CF1 charcoal filters separately. Compare the two product pages for what is in the box.

How often should ZLINE charcoal filters be replaced?

Follow the replacement interval in your hood's ZLINE manual. Charcoal filters can't be washed back to full strength the way stainless baffle filters can. Replace them when the manual says, or sooner if odors return.
