THOR Kitchen 48-inch double oven gas range

THOR 36 vs 48 Inch Gas Range: Which Size Should You Buy?

Last updated: October 28, 2026. Specs come from THOR Kitchen spec sheets linked below; stock changes daily, so check each product page.

Short answer: Choose a 36-inch THOR gas range if your opening is 36 inches and one large oven covers your cooking. The LRG3601U has six burners and a 6.0 cu. ft. oven. Choose a 48-inch model only if you have a 48-inch opening and want a griddle and two ovens. The LRG4807U has six burners, a 15,000 BTU griddle, and 4.6 + 2.2 cu. ft. ovens. The 48 also needs a wider hood with more CFM.

Who the 36-inch fits

  • You are replacing an existing 36-inch range, so the cabinets stay as they are.
  • One big oven is enough. The 6.0 cu. ft. cavity takes large roasting pans and sheet pans.
  • You want two 18,000 BTU front burners for searing and wok work. A wok ring (WK01) is sold separately.

Who the 48-inch fits

  • You have or are building a 48-inch opening. It will not drop into a 36-inch space.
  • You cook two things at different temperatures at once, like a roast and bread or holiday sides.
  • You want a built-in griddle for breakfasts and smash burgers.

Plan the hood before you pick the size

Use the higher of two estimates. HVI recommends 100 CFM per linear foot of range width for a wall hood. A common gas rule is total burner BTU ÷ 100.

  • 36-inch: 300 CFM by width vs about 780 CFM by BTU.
  • 48-inch: 400 CFM by width vs about 930 CFM by BTU (with the griddle).

These are starting points, not a design. Hoods capable of more than 400 CFM often trigger make-up air rules (IRC M1503.6 where adopted). Run your numbers in our range hood CFM calculator and read make-up air for hoods over 400 CFM. Gas, venting and electrical work should be done by a licensed installer to local code.

FAQ

Should I buy a 36-inch or 48-inch THOR range?

Buy the 36-inch if you are replacing a 36-inch range and one large oven covers your cooking. Choose the 48-inch only if you have, or are building, a 48-inch opening and want a griddle plus a second oven. Check the cutout on the spec sheet first.

How much hood CFM does a THOR 48-inch gas range need?

THOR's LRG4807U spec sheet lists six burners (78,000 BTU combined) plus a 15,000 BTU griddle. The common BTU÷100 rule suggests about 930 CFM before duct losses. Hoods over 400 CFM can trigger make-up air rules, so confirm with your installer.

Do THOR gas ranges need a 240V outlet?

Not the LRG gas models covered here. THOR's spec sheets for LRG3601U and LRG4807U list 120V on a 15A breaker, plus a gas line. Dual-fuel and electric THOR ranges have different electrical needs; check the exact model's sheet.

Can a 48-inch range replace a 36-inch range?

Not without cabinet work. THOR's LRG4807U needs a 48-1/8 inch wide cutout, versus 36-1/8 inches for the LRG3601U, and usually a wider hood and a bigger gas supply.
